REICH'S GROUP
My students and postdocs work on a variety of ore systems in different tectonic settings, including porphyry and stratiform copper, epithermal and mesothermal gold-silver, iron oxide-apatite (IOA), iron oxide-copper-gold (IOCG), and carbonate hosted Nb-REE deposits, among others. We focus on fundamental aspects of the geology of mineral systems, including the role of the subcontinental lithospheric mantle as a source of metals, the fertility signals of magmas associated with mineralization, hydrothermal processes and ore formation, and weathering and supergene upgrading of metal deposits. I am particularly interested in critical minerals and their relevance for the green energy transition.

Current members
Jorge Muñoz. ANID Postdoctoral Fellow. Jorge holds a B.Sc. and a Ph.D. in geology from the Universidad Católica del Norte. His postdoc project at University of Chile focus on stable isotope geochemistry of supergene minerals from copper deposits in the Andes. Jorge is particularly interested in biogeochemical factors that control supergene enrichment.
Diego Muñoz. Ph.D. candidate. Diego holds a B.Sc. in geology from the University of Chile in Santiago. After working as an exploration geologist at EMSA (Codelco), Diego has returned to academia to pursue a Ph.D. His project focuses on zircon geochemistry to assess metallogenic fertility in porphyry copper districts.
Lorrana Roriz. M.Sc. student. Lorrana's project investigates the use of pyrite geochemistry as a vector towards gold mineralization in high-sulfidation epithermal Au-Ag deposits in the Andean Cordillera of northern Chile. She holds B.Sc. in geology from the Universidad Federal de Río de Janeiro in Brazil.

Antonia Clericus. M.Sc. student. Antonia uses numerical simulations to understand the geochemistry of surficial copper cycling. Her project focuses on the advective flow of solutes and water-rock chemical reactions during the development of supergene enrichment profiles. Her modeling strategy seeks to evaluate the main factors controlling the development of supergene profiles contrasting real settings in IOCG and porphyry Cu deposits.

Isidora Morales. M.Sc. student. Isidora studies supergene oxidation and enrichment processes in northern Chile. Her master's project focuses on supergene parageneses and temporality in copper deposits from the Coastal Cordillera of the Antofagasta region. Her approach includes high-resolution mineralogical techniques in combination with Ar-Ar geochronology and stable isotope methods.

Miguel Antúnez. M.Sc. student. Miguel's masters project aims to constrain the timing and tempo of supergene enrichment in the Coastal Cordillera of northern Chile. In particular, Miguel studies supergene minerals in porphyry copper deposits from the Domeyko area South of Vallenar, and applies Ar-Ar dating techniques in combination with stable isotope data.
